Legacy and Newer Contract Labels
Official TIAA materials use earlier and newer contract-family language to organize labels; the wording is historical classification, not a recommendation.
Earlier Contract Families
RA, GRA, SRA and GSRA appear in official materials as earlier contract families. TIAA’s current product primer says they are not offered to new plans, while noting that existing organizations may continue to use them.
Newer Contract Families
RC and RCP appear as newer contract families in official comparison materials. “Newer” describes the publication’s naming timeline; it does not mean universally better or appropriate for any individual.
Do Not Read the Bands as Status Labels
An earlier label is not automatically inactive, and a newer label does not prove that it applies to a particular person. The publication context and current plan documents remain decisive.
Editorial Rule
This page records naming history only. It deliberately excludes comparisons of product features, access, outcomes and possible actions.
